„Karmelek is – as the author says – „a dog. A little puppy. A village mongrel, but he’s so sweet!...”
Karmelek lives in village cottage, where everyone has their own tasks and duties, and Karmelek wants to be useful too. When he tries to find his own way, he meets nothing but dissapointments. Cow makes him aware that he can’t produce milk; sheep is teaching him that dog is not a wool source; hen does not let him sitting out her eggs. Rooster agrees to help him with waking up everybody at the morning... but it leads to a total disaster, because puppy can’t crow, so at the next day... everybody wake up after noon. Karmelek is in despair because he feels useless and worse than other animals. Only the farmer explain to him that their friendship is the most precious service of Karmelek.
Simple and written in a poem play for the youngest viewers, full of humour and activities connected with audience shows, in a very simple way, that friendship, commitment and loyalty are worth much more than material goods.
Marta Guśniewska’s „Karmelek” achieved a second price in last year 28. Children and Teenagers Play Contest, organized by Childs Art Centre in Poznań.
